Liver is the largest and one of the most important organs in the human body. It is seat of all metabolism and all the toxins, hormones, drugs, alcohol, preservatives, chemicals, body toxins are metabolized.
Any disease of the Liver may lead to serious problems and Cirrhosis being one among them.In this disease, there is a blockage of blood through the Liver and unhealthy or scar tissues replace the normal tissues of the Liver.
According to the WHO data published in May 2014 Liver Disease Deaths in India reached 216,865 or 2.44% of total deaths.
A healthy Liver can regenerate most of its own cells when they become damaged. With end-stage cirrhosis, the Liver can no longer effectively replace damaged cells. A healthy Liver is necessary for survival.
According to Ayurveda Cirrhosis of Liver can be compared with Kumbha Kamala. It reflects extreme aggravation of pitta dosha. Since Liver is a seat of pitta, aggravated pitta affects the Liver function and later vitiates other doshas as well. Almost all functions of pitta get considerably hampered.
Cirrhosis is a disease of rich and poor alike. The most common cause of cirrhosis of the Liver is excessive use of alcohol. It harms many organs in the body but it is most harmful to the Liver. A faulty and unhealthy diet is also a reason for the cause of this disease. Hepatitis B, hepatitis C and hepatitis D, drugs, toxins and infections also lead to cirrhosis of the Liver.
In Non-alcoholic fatty Liver disease fat builds up in the Liver and eventually causes cirrhosis. This increasingly common Liver disease is associated with obesity, diabetes, protein malnutrition, coronary artery disease, and corticosteroid medications.
Several different diseases can damage or destroy the ducts that carry bile from the Liver, causing bile to back up in the Liver and leading to cirrhosis. In adults, the most common condition in this category is primary biliary cirrhosis. Primary sclerosing cholangitis is another condition that causes damage and scarring of bile ducts.
