Dandruff is termed as Darunaka in Ayurveda and is considered as Kshudra roga. It is a non infectious skin disease of the scalp that causes flakes of skin to appear. It is often accompanied by itching. The exact cause is unknown, but various factors increase the risk. It is not related to poor hygiene, but it may be more visible if a person does not wash or brush their hair often.
Dandruff has involvement of Kapha and Vata dosha. Acharya Vaghabata explained it in sirorogas, and Acharya Sushrutha explained Darunaka in kshudra roga.
Clinical Features:
- Itching,
- Hairfall,
- Cracking of the skin,
- Burning sensation and
- Heaviness of head.
Causes: the exact cause is unkown, but following can be considered as risk factors
a) Excess intake of sour tasting foods.
b) Intake of cold water for long.
c) Disturbed sleep.
d) Exposure to dust and sunlight.
e) Excessive sweating
f) Not washing hair regularly and Hygeine.
g) Suppression of natural urges, Non- Application of the oil to the scalp.
h) If the causes lies in underlying skin disease such as psoriasis, eczema.

c) Shirodhara, shirovasti helps not only relieve dandruff and improve hair quality. They also relieve stress and lack of sleep.
2. Diet:
Food with rich in Vitamin E and omega 3 Fatty acids help to keep the scalp in good health.
